Melbourne IT - Who Are We?
Melbourne IT Ltd is a company actually created by the University of Melbourne in 1996. The company was created to work with the private sector on IT projects and was soon recognised as the sole Australian domain registrar for the .au domain. Within 5 years Melbourne IT was acknowledged by the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, a regional program in which recognises and profiles Australian Technology companies that have achieved the fastest rates of revenue growth. Then only a year later in 2002 Melbourne IT achieved a position in the Deloitte Technology fast 500, a North American program thats recognises company's for the same values of success however has a much broader competitive position. From 2003 - 2005 we obtained a hugely significant increase in domain names under our management ranging from 2.3 million to 3.8 million which is an increase of nearly 30%! Melbourne IT was on the rise with a bright and successful future and as so we were on the search for new and exciting challenges. From 2003 through to 2008 we purchased several high ranking companies such as; Domainz (New Zealands largest domain registrar), Cogent IDC (European digital brand protection), Webcentral Group (Australians largest web hosting company), IDR Management Services (UK domain management services) and VeriSign Inc's Digital Brand Management Services division.
Our company has significantly grown and developed over the years and is currently standing with over 400 employees spread across Australia and the United States ready to assist you. My father is involved with an IT company in Europe so i find this very interesting. Do you have an concerns with the company and how it is performing and what do you think they could be doing better?
ReplyDeleteHey Andrew,
ReplyDeleteThere are a few concerns I have. The IT business is a very competitive industry and Melbourne IT was taking on new and exciting projects such as a the Digital Brand Services division and ForTheRecord Division in hope for competing in the ever evolving economy. ForTheRecord by the way is a digital recording and content management service. However they were quick to sell off these divisions only 6 years later. How does your dad hope to compete in this changing economy?
Hey Sam,
DeleteMy dad specialises in security software and IT management for other companies. His company also has a big hand in creating apps for smart phones. Well as IT is the way of the future i believe that as long as his company can keep producing new software with new ideas the changing economy won't affect his company in any major way. How do you think Melbourne IT will cope with the changing economy and compete with its competitors?
Hey Andrew,
DeleteAlthough i cannot seem to find in-depth detail on the future plans of Melbourne IT it is constantly stated that the company is strongly positioned for future growth. I did happen to come across what they are calling a 'Systems Transformation Project' however as stated before i cannot seem to find in-depth information on this project. In my eyes, funnily enough, i think they could be talking in terms of a new ergonomic outlook in there systems such as iphone apps just like your father's company. In the modern age where nearly every person i see has a smart phone wether that be an iphone or others like samsung, i can see this being the obvious approach. these apps create many advantages such as ease of usage, accessibility and a way to engage with the modern age of smartphone users. Many thanks for bring this to my attention.
Have you had any thoughts as to how EGL will compete within its industry in the future?
EGL hasn't done to well in the past 2 years but it is on the upswing and working its way back into the being another major competitor. Although EGL hasn't been profitable its current subsidiaries are performing well and keeping in a float. Since the mining industry is in such good place right now there will always be demand for EGLs products and services, as most of the products they provide are essential for all digging and building sites.

ReplyDeleteHey Sam
ReplyDeleteI was wondering is there is a store or office in Brisbane some where??
Hey Aaron,
DeleteMelbourne IT does not have any stores as they mainly provide services over retail, however there are a few items they sell such as online packages to help set up a business website. There are 4 offices located in Brisbane, Sydney, Wellington and Melbourne IT headquarters located in Melbourne.
I understand that your company E-Pay Asia is an electronic top-up services or the reloading of airtime minutes for prepaid mobile phone users in Asia.
Are you enjoying your chosen business? Also what do you mean by 'reloading airtime minutes'?
Yeh Sam,
ReplyDeleteI really like my company. I'm guessing you have a phone plan airtime is the minutes you use on your phone. so reloading airtime minutes means if you are going to run out of minutes on your phone you can top it up fast at local stores or call the company you are with to top up.
i hope that helped.
